Utah Considers Return to Gold, Silver Coins

Its been nearly 80 years since the U.S. stopped using gold coins as legal currency, and nearly 40 since the world abandoned the gold standard, but the precious metal could be making a comeback in the United States -- beginning in Utah.

The Utah House was to vote as early as Thursday on legislation that would recognize gold and silver coins issued by the federal government as legal currency in the state. The coins would not replace the current paper currency but would be used and accepted voluntarily as an alternative.

The legislation, which has 12 co-sponsors, would let Utahans pay their taxes with gold and also calls for a committee to study alternative currencies for the state. It would also exempt the sale of gold from the state capital gains tax....

Not only did the Obama Administration add another $100 billion to the cost of Obamacare one month after the bill was rammed through Congress but today the Obama Administration admitted to fraud. The White House and Democrats double-counted $500 billion in Obamacare in order to make it look like the bill was going to save the American taxpayers some cash.

Last year Democrats said they were going to cover 30 million more people (Americans and others) with health insurance and they claimed it was going to save money. We knew they were lying then. This week they admitted they were lying.



Democrats told America “We’re just giddy” about saving money with Obamacare before they rammed it home.
It was a lie.

Global food prices hit a record high in February, the United Nations said Thursday, warning that further oil price spikes and stockpiling by importers keen to head off unrest would hit already volatile cereal markets.

Rising food prices are a growing global concern, partly fuelling the protests which toppled the rulers of Tunisia and Egypt in January and February, which in turn unleashed unrest in North Africa and the Middle East from Algeria to Yemen.

The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization's Food Price Index hit its second straight record last month, driven by rising grain costs and tighter supply to further pass peaks seen in 2008 when prices sparked riots in several countries....  Read More

Economic despair reigns in America, as stagnation and mounting debt make our future look hopeless. Yet America is uniquely positioned to rebound and recover our economic preeminence. All that is necessary is a political decision to reverse our energy policy and stimulate domestic production of hydrocarbons. From that would flow a true economic stimulus that would mend many of our ills.

The United States is again, for the second time in less than three years, being reminded of its absurd dependence of foreign sources of energy, most notably, oil. The upheavals in the Middle East have driven up the cost of a barrel of oil into triple digits as it was in 2008. The increasing demands of countries such as China and India and the deliberate devaluation of the dollar by the Federal Reserve and the Obama administration are steadily pushing up oil prices in dollars.

The country's dependence of foreign sources has increased to 52% of the daily requirement as compared to 45% just 15 years ago. Over half of that amount comes from countries that are inherently unstable or ruled by despotic regimes whose interest it is to de-stabilize the United States.

It's crunch time in Washington, D.C. President Obama must know that a dozen Republicans are saving those boastful videotapes of Mr. O pushing President Mubarak out of power, followed by an endless series of breakdowns throughout the Arabic world.

Just think about that as a 30 second commercial next election year:

Obama: "Mubarak must resign. Now means Now!"

Those chandeliers will still be falling from the ceilings in the next election campaign, because the instability in the Arab world is not going to be settled quickly. Obama will be seen as another Jimmy Carter, and like Carter, his first challenge will come from inside the Democratic Party.

It was Ted Kennedy who challenged Carter in the Democratic primaries after the Iranian fiasco. Kennedy weakened Carter, and Reagan got elected as a result. Democrats who lived through that disaster for the left haven't forgotten it, and Obama is now looking into the same abyss. His biggest challenge is likely to come from Hillary and Bill, who are aching for revenge.

But Hillary is also implicated in the fiasco in the Middle East, where Obama deliberately told Mubarak to leave, after raising expectations throughout the Muslim world that he couldn't possibly satisfy. The voters can also be reminded of HillaryCare, as ObamaCare runs into the longest economic recession in history.

What is the perfect way to get the eyes of the American people off of the real economic problems that this country is facing?  Get them fighting with each other of course.  And what is one issue that is sure to get the left and the right screaming at each other like cats and dogs?  Unions.  The battle over collective bargaining rights in Wisconsin has been making headlines around the world for weeks and there are no signs that it is going to end any time soon.  In fact, Mordecai Lee, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, says that it is "a battle to the death".  The Democrats that have gone AWOL appear to be absolutely determined to stay away.  The protesters seem equally determined to keep on fighting.  Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker does not look like he plans to back down either.  Meanwhile, both sides are calling each other the most horrible names.  "Hitler", "Stalin", "Nazi" and "fascist" are just a few of the terms that are being thrown around by both sides.  What has been going on in Wisconsin has captured the imagination of the entire nation and it is creating even more hate between the left and the right in this country.  Unfortunately, as the economic pie in this nation continues to shrink, economic battles such as the one in Wisconsin are going to become quite common.   Read More

Why choose to participate in a system that doesn’t work? A system that is designed to drain the people of wealth instead of enriching them and their lives? A system that is constructed upon irrational principles, faulty laws, and unstable values? A system on the verge of collapse?

Attorney General Eric Holder had something of a meltdown on Capitol Hill today when a Republican Congressman pressed him on his preferential treatment of the New Black Panther Party. Rep. John Culberson, R-TX, read a statement from a Democrat calling the Black Panthers’ actions the worst case of voter intimidation he had ever seen. In response, Holder huffed that, while the Panther’s nightstick-wielding threats were “inappropriate,” the assessment was demeaning to “my people.”

Perhaps more important than his admission that he does not see the American people as “his people” is a line he uttered shortly afterwards.

After Culberson cited “overwhelming evidence that your Department of Justice refuses to protect the rights of anybody other than African-Americans to vote,” Holder stated, “This Department of Justice does not enforce the law on the basis of race.”

Holder intended this as a denial, but it seems more like a Freudian admission.

After all, it is precisely what Holder’s Justice Department stands accused of, not enforcing the law on the basis of race.  Read More

The death knell for freedom has been tolling for some time, and only now are people starting to hear it. It started tolling faintly, decades back, and has slowly progressed in volume, until today its tolling is impossible to ignore.

The United States of America—that “shining city on a hill”—had a good run of it, and made a gallant effort at establishing liberty for all. But as the old saw would have it, all good things must come to an end.

Liberty, after all, is an aberration in mankind’s history—a light that has flared here and there over the centuries, only to dissolve back into the darkness.

America is barreling toward becoming a bit player on the world’s stage, and its vaunted middle class—once the envy of the world—is on the verge of being eliminated. For the good of the planet, for the good of Gaia. For the good of the collective—freedom is being replaced by servitude, capitalism by socialism, and property rights by “sustainable development.”

I’m not talking about something we need to be on guard against. It is all already in place. It has been going on for quite some time, and it will continue to go on, at a greatly accelerated pace. We are at the “end game” point.

It has become glaringly obvious that our current federal government, and most state governments to varying degrees, have become illegal, oppressive, usurpers of power that run contrary to the constitution and the people they represent.

Governments come in all manner of design. They are more apt to be abusive than they are comforting to those they purport to defend or represent. Of all the governmental forms the most protective of individual rights is a constitutional republic, solely because the powers the government wields are derived from the people and therefore the government cannot legally derive any power that is not granted to the government by the people. Yet, a republican form of government is the most easily lost to a non-attentive or ignorant citizenry.

In the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence we find, concerning the government and the rights of the people: “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

All governments, and therefore government powers, have a beginning. They are either usurped, meaning taken by force, or the powers are delegated to them by those that created the government. In the case of a dictatorship or other oppressive governmental forms, the power is nearly always usurped. Any power that is assumed by government and not derived from the consent of the people is only “operative” based on the force used to ensure compliance.  Read More

Heads I win, tails you lose. That’s the false choice America’s Community Organizer-in-Chief just offered the states. Let me explain. Many governors are unhappy about Obamacare, so President Obama told them, “If your state can create a plan that can cover as many people as affordably and comprehensively as the Affordable Care Act does, without increasing the deficit, you can implement that plan and we’ll work with you to do it.” Sounds like he’s being pragmatic and reasonable doesn’t it?

Well then the joke’s on you.

Michael F. Cannon of the Cato Institute saw through Obama’s ruse:

A closer look shows that the president is not lifting the burdensome requirements ObamaCare imposes on states. All he’s doing is proposing to move up, from 2017 to 2014, the date on which states can apply for federal permission to impose a different but equivalently or more coercive plan to expand health insurance coverage.

The move is calculated to make it look like President Obama is suddenly being realistic about the crushing burden his horrendous big government health care legislation will impose on the states. What the president offered the states was a) the opportunity to stay the course and allow Obamacare to destroy the private health care system in due course or b) the opportunity for the states to destroy the private health care system immediately without waiting for the federal legislation to do it. 

Naturally, superficial reporters at the New York Times and Politico were duped into thinking Obama had actually conceded something to his critics, when in fact he gave them worse than nothing. He offered the states an opportunity to immediately enact what he’s wanted all along (single-payer) and will get eventually as Obamacare crushes private insurers.

President Obama is a practiced Alinskyite master of deception who excels at cheating people out of their future while making them think he’s helping them. That’s what community organizers do.
