Boehner Is Beginning to Crack on the Budget Compromise

The alleged $4 trillion deal has been trimmed back to $2 trillion.

WP — House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) abandoned efforts Saturday night to reach a comprehesive debt-reduction deal, telling President Obama that a mid-size package was the only politically possible alternative to avoid a first-ever default on the nation’s mounting national debt.

After speaking with Obama — who is hosting a key meeting Sunday evening on steps forward on the debt issue — Boehner issued the following statement:

“Despite good-faith efforts to find common ground, the White House will not pursue a bigger debt reduction agreement without tax hikes. I believe the best approach may be to focus on producing a smaller measure, based on the cuts identified in the Biden-led negotiations, that still meets our call for spending reforms and cuts greater than the amount of any debt limit increase.”

A great default is behind us. The public is unaware of this. If you read this report, you will no longer be unaware of it.


The ease with which this default took place should serve as a warning: there will be additional, much larger defaults. Again, the public does not understand this. The main one will be Social Security. The program is now in the red: more money going out than comiomng in. But most people still cannot believe that the program really will go belly-up. Legally, the Federal government is a month away from bankruptcy. The government, under the direction of Treasury Secretary Geithner, is borrowing money from Federal employees’ pension funds to keep the doors open.

It’s an accounting trick. First, the Federal government funds the pension funds with money. Second, the funds buy Treasury bonds. Third, the government immediately spends the money. It’s like Social Security, whose Trust Fund is a pile of IOUs from the government.  Read More

The Supreme Court ruled on June 20, 2011 that the power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions (primarily carbon) rests with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), saying that the EPA is better equipped to deal with the science of greenhouse gases (aka global warming, climate change and CO2). S.J. RES. 10, a resolution to amend the Constitution to provide a balanced budget (BBA) is, perhaps, the greatest hoax ever perpetrated against We the People since the equally unconstitutional 17th Amendment. (1)

The superficial intent of the BBA is redundant to the enumerated powers of Congress; therefore the “selling” points are bogus. Sections 1. and 2. to provide a balanced budget under 18% GDP (unless Congress votes otherwise) is already provided for in Article 1. Sections 8. and 9. The House has constitutional authority and responsibility to raise revenue and expend that revenue from the treasury.

Section 3. of the proposed BBA contains the ulterior motivation and true reason for the BBA. Section 3. gives responsibility for the enumerated powers of Congress to the executive! How dangerous can that be? The Senate, with the passage of S.679 (2), just granted permission to the executive to have sole authority for choosing the subordinates who will substantiate the budget that the BBA will now allow him to make. Outlays, receipts, and GDP are all determined by the executive’s czars and czarinas. How stupid do legislators think their constituents can be?

And, of course, the classic Sections 6. and 7. which waive the rest of the BBA when the Nation is engaged in military conflict are the ultimate affront to anyone’s intelligence. The United States has been engaged in endless war since WWII. Most recently re-affirmed (and not rescinded) by H.J. RES. 64 dated September 14, 2001. (3) The BBA, if passed, can never be used because the United States is engaged in continuous wars! Unconstitutional wars by bombs and boots on the ground in Libya, Yemen, and Somalia (4, 5, 6) all in need of a “specific excess”.

What fools We are to elect congressmen who attempt such ludicrous and unconstitutional initiatives. How unfortunate for the Nation that only 87 could be voted out of the House in 2010. But hopefully, depravity of the magnitude of S.J. RES. 10 will result in 100’s being voted out in 2012. This is the goal of We the People; S.J. RES. 10 and other similar acts of tyranny provide the incentive. Will you be one of those to go in 2012?

When you all are considering the transgressions you are taking with Our Constitution, against the Oath you took to defend the Constitution, reflect on those young men and women who are dying on God forsaken sand dunes perpetuating the military/industrial complex and thinking they too are defending the Constitution. Consider that your rush to tyranny will lead to anarchy as shown by non-revisionist history over millenniums.

So shame on all of you for what you do and more shame for what you don’t do.

There simply is no way to unwind the colossal web of debt that we have constructed in an orderly fashion. Right now the EU and the IMF have been making "emergency loans" to nations such as Greece, Ireland and Portugal, but that is only going to buy those countries a few additional months. Giving more loans to nations that are already drowning in red ink may "kick the can down the road" for a little while but it isn't going to solve anything. As long as he views himself as “safe and secure”, as long as he imagines his chains to be wings, he will see no reason to question the validity of the world around him, and he will certainly never invest himself into changing his own deluded destiny.

  

Unfortunately, there are many such men crawling and scraping about here in what was once a land graced with a self sufficient and independently minded public majority. The great lie that has been perpetuated in this country over the past several decades is that we can defer our responsibilities of vigilance and place our well being and our futures into the hands of others for the sake of “collective efficiency”, or leisure. We have been conditioned to live in a state of constant indifference, a society which prizes compromise over principle and steadfast resolve. Those who refuse to compromise that which is honorable for the sake of ease and comfort are indicted as “extremist” or even criminal. The idea of personal revolution is treated with discomfort, and all we claim to stand for becomes muddled in a fog of inaction and cynicism. As Americans, we have forgotten what it means to earn and protect our own freedoms. We have forgotten that in liberty, there are standards that must be defended.

State and local governments across the country that are drowning in debt and that are desperate for cash are increasingly turning to the "privatization" of public assets as the solution to their problems. Pieces of infrastructure that taxpayers have already paid for such as highways, water treatment plants, libraries, parking meters, airports and power plants are being auctioned off to the highest bidder. Most of the time what happens is that the state or local government receives a huge lump sum of cash up front for a long-term lease (usually 75 years or longer) and the foreign investors come in and soak as much revenue out of the piece of infrastructure that they possibly can. The losers in these deals are almost always the taxpayers. Justice Department Obstructing ‘Fast and Furious’ Gun Probe, ATF Director Says

The Justice Department is obstructing the congressional investigation of a U.S. law enforcement operation intended to crack down on major weapons traffickers on the Southwest border, according to the embattled leader of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Ken Melson, the acting director of the ATF, lobbed the accusation when he sneaked in for an interview with congressional investigators on July 4, two days ahead of his scheduled interview with the inspector general about the operation known as “Fast and Furious,” Fox News has learned.

“If his account is accurate, then ATF leadership appears to have been effectively muzzled while the DOJ sent over false denials and buried its head in the sand,” Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said in a letter Tuesday to Attorney General Eric Holder. “That approach distorted the truth and obstructed our investigation.”

The Justice Department is reportedly looking to oust Melson, who has been acting ATF director since April 2009, as the agency deals with its biggest scandal in nearly two decades. Andrew Traver, who was tapped in November by President Obama to become the permanent ATF director, could be named as acting director until the Senate acts on his nomination, sources have said.  Read More

Somewhere between confusion and ignorance lies the teaching many Americans receive today on the motives of the Founders of the USA. The American Revolution was really a battle over ideas between the Old and New Worlds. And the chief idea being fought over in the 1770s was that of Liberty.

Colonists considered themselves heirs of the rights of freeborn Englishmen. This powerful conviction was torn-asunder by the decisions of mad King George and an arrogant Parliament. The English realized too late that principled Americans would be willing to fight and die for such beliefs as the right to representative government and the sanctity of private property.

Amazingly, we again today must reassert our rights to such concepts as Life, Liberty and Property, against a tyrannical government or allow our children to eke out an existence as slaves of an all-powerful state. Read More
