Report: Pakistani Security Forces Protected Bin Laden Since 9/11…

May 2, 2011

(Telegraph) — Pakistani security forces allegedly helped Osama bin Laden evade American troops for almost 10 years, according to secret US government files.

American diplomats were told that one of the key reasons why they had failed to find bin Laden was that Pakistan’s security services tipped him off whenever US troops approached.

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISID) also allegedly smuggled al-Qaeda terrorists through airport security to help them avoid capture and sent a unit into Afghanistan to fight alongside the Taliban.

The claims, made in leaked US government files obtained by Wikileaks, will add to questions over Pakistan’s capacity to fight al-Qaeda.

Last year, David Cameron caused a diplomatic furore when he told Pakistan that it could not “look both ways” on terrorism. The Pakistani government issued a strongly-worded rebuttal.

But bin Laden was eventually tracked down and killed in compound located just a few hundred yards from Pakistan’s prestigious military academy in Abbotabad.

The raid by elite US troops was kept secret from the government of Pakistan. Only a tight circle within the Obama Administration knew of the operation.

In December 2009, the government of Tajikistan warned the United States that efforts to catch bin Laden were being thwarted by corrupt Pakistani spies.

According to a US diplomatic dispatch, General Abdullo Sadulloevich Nazarov, a senior Tajik counterterrorism official, told the Americans that “many” inside Pakistan knew where bin Laden was.

Osama Bin Laden Killed By Surgical Strike...?

"This is a fascinating and heroic story of special forces daring-do. Really...it is. I think I read something just like it in a Tam Clancy novel one time. However, I have yet to see any actual evidence provided by the government or the media that this surgical strike ever took place. Strangely, the helicopter wreckage from the crash depicted in the article was destroyed. The couriers supposedly tracked by the government to Bin Laden's location were killed, and, Bin Laden's body has apparently ALREADY been buried at sea! Can I see some unedited video of this event, Obama Administration? How about a picture of Bin Laden's body? Don't tell me they're afraid to "rile" the Muslim community with dead body photos. If that were true they would stop showing photos of dead children in Iraq and Afghanistan. Please, is it too much to ask to have some concrete evidence to back the stories the government reports, or is that something only a "conspiracy theorist" would request? Somebody tell me they are going to produce more than just second hand information..."

Osama Bin Laden is dead, President Obama announced Sunday night, in a televised address to the nation. His death was the result of a U.S. operation launched today in Abbottabad, Pakistan, against a compound where bin Laden was believed to be hiding, according to U.S. intelligence. After a firefight, a small team of American forces killed bin Laden and took possession of his body, the president said.

“Tonight I can report to the American people and the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden,” Obama said during brief remarks at the White House.

...Officials warned that in the aftermath of the attack, Americans should be on alert for a reprisal from al Qaeda. However, one official added, there were “no specific threats" as of Sunday night. ABC News reported that authorities plan to bury bin Laden’s body at sea in order to leave no definitive location for his final resting place. It will be done, an official added, “in accordance with Islamic practice and tradition." Hours later, CNN reported that the burial had taken place.  Read More
